Formed in 1994, The Horse Protection League is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules in the greater Rocky Mountain Region. Located near Arvada and Golden, HPL is supported and run entirely by volunteer members who love and cherish the horse. 

Celebrating over ten years of helping abused and neglected animals, we often take time to stop and ask ourselves an important question -- How have we made it this far? We don't have something nifty to sell. We're not handing out bonuses at the end of the year for those who work hard. And, as with any organization, the future is always a little uncertain. 

We've made it over ten years because we are a group of people that give freely of our valuable time and gifts to benefit those who are less fortunate. Furthermore, by acting as a group, we have accomplished much more than most of us could have done by ourselves. Each individual's efforts encourage all of us to persist, to hang in there, and get another step closer to accomplishing our mission.

Here at HPL, we have built on persistence and determination. During our history, several doors were shut tight but volunteers continued to look for the ones that would open. By taking baby steps, we have succeeded where many other non-profits have failed. Most of us are just ordinary citizens who use our heads, hands and hearts to give what we can. 

Whether they muck stalls, feed horses, fill water tanks, send money, coordinate projects, serve on our board or just cheer us on our path, every single person who has volunteered their time has been an invaluable part of our organization and we could not continue to be successful without them. Many thanks also to our many donors who have provided the financial support in the past, and we hope, well into the future.
