The mission of
the Zoo is to
provide a wildlife conservancy which offers high-quality experiences in an urban
recreational setting. To provide environmental education which inspires public
awareness of global conservation. To engage in scientific programs which make
meaningful contributions to the conservation of animals and their ecosystems.
The vision of the Zoo is to be internationally respected as a leader in animal
care and exhibition,
conservation programs,
scientific study,
environmental education
and public service.
Visitors to the Zoo can view nearly 4,000 different animals, representing over
700 species. That means a rare look at exotic animals like amur leopards, king
cobras, black rhinos, coral reef fish, elephants, zebras, vampire bats, gorillas
and more.
Modern zoo exhibitry has improved the lives of animals and created a richer
experience for Denver Zoo visitors. With naturalistic habitats like the new
Predator Ridge as
well as
Tropical Discovery,
Primate Panorama
and the Dragons of Komodo exhibit, the Zoo is working to enhance the lives of
some of the world's most endangered species.
Not only are some current exhibits unique to the Denver Zoo, but unique in the
wild as well - 144 zoo species are considered
endangered, and
three species are actually extinct in the wild. That's why the Denver Zoo
continues to foster an education-based approach to the appreciation of wildlife
and conservation of our precious natural resources.
